- Developer of Caribou Mines in Boulder County, Colorado
- Was United States Deputy Mineral Surveyor, and Mining Engineer at Sunshine, Boulder County, Colorado
- Designed and constructed silver reduction works at Rosita, Colorado
- Chief of Land Department of the United States Surveyor General’s office in Denver
- Was long regarded as the “father” of the Society
- Author of articles about mineral deposits of Colorado, artesian wells of Denver, and on coal and natural gas
