Colorado Scientific Society Field Trips – 1980-1989

The Colorado Scientific Society usually has a Spring and a Fall field trip, with field trip guides, maps and other illustrations, and pictures of people learning and enjoying themselves. The most recent field trips are listed first.

The field trip guides for some field trip’s can be downloaded, usually as PDFs. The size of files larger than 3 MB is called out in the link, e.g. “Quaternary San Luis Basin, Ancient Lake Alamosa, 2007 (PDF 4.6 MB)”.

Overview of the varied gology and mineral resources of west-central Colorado in the Glenwood Springs-Aspen region

CSS Fall Field Trip; Oct. 1-3, 1982

The trip featured the geology of the West-Central Colorado in the Dotsero, Glenwood Springs, and Aspen areas.

  • Day 1 starting at Dotsero in the Eagle Basin, going through the White River Uplift in Glenwood Canyon, and crossing the Grand Hogback into the Piceance Basin.
  • Day 2 follows the Roaring Fork from Glenwood Springs to Aspen.
  • Day 3 goes up Colo. 82 up to Maroon Lake.
  • Tectonic History of West-Central Colorado by Ogden Tweeto is included.
