Field Trips 2022 Central City Gravel

2022 “No Moss” field trip: Central City Gravel: A Pleistocene Till with Profound Geomorphic Relationships

Saturday, October 8, 2022

Trip Leader: Cal Ruleman, US Geological Survey

Join us Saturday, Oct. 8, to visit the Central City Gravel, a Pleistocene till, with geomorphic relationships related to the glaciofluvial erosion of the Front Range and Denver Basin and alluding to Neogene tectonics.

The Central City Gravel top the ridge above Clear Creek that the Central City Parkway cuts through in its way from I-70 to Central City, Colorado. This field trip was to examine these gravels and the possibility that they were created by a pre-Bull Lake glaciation.

The Central City cuts through the Central City Gravel on the top of the ridge above Clear Creek.
